THE CHAMP (THE HAWK TALKS)

AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY BY ALAN HAWKSHAW

Academically, Alan Hawkshaw was a failure. Painfully shy and lacking self-confidence, Hawkshaw played the only card he had... his musical ability. As a composer for Film & Television his theme tunes include Countdown, Grange Hill (aka ‛Chicken Man’), Channel 4 News (aka ‛Best Endeavours’), The New Statesman, Channel 4 Racing and Dave Allen At Large. BBC Radio 2 DJs Simon Mayo, Chris Evans and Steve Wright still feature some of these themes even today. Crowned ‘the undisputed king of library music’ and with over 7000 sessions as a top session musician, Hawkshaw has worked with many world famous stars including Barbra Streisand, Tom Jones, Led Zepplin, Dusty Springfield and Cliff Richard to name but a few. But this book is about the circumstances surrounding the tours, recording sessions and personal associations with the people behind the scenes as well as those in the limelight.

“My sister and I loved Alan as soon as we met him. It’s wonderful to see someone so proud of their work!”
Michael McIntyre

“Love Alan, he’s fabulous!”
Carol Vorderman

“Pianist Al Hawkshaw is fantastic!”
Bill Wyman

“The Hawk (as he is fondly known) is certainly 'up there' with the best”
Les Reed. OBE.FCL

“Take imagination…flair and boundless enthusiasm, and you will have only a thinly sketched outline of The Hawk”
Des O’Connor

“Congratulations Hawk. ‘I Honestly Love You’…I must say you played so beautifully on that track”
Love and light
Olivia Newton-John
